Sam Bhai

Sam “Bhai “

Its midnight past. Sam couldn’t get sleep. The most important questions (!) in anybody’s life have come to him today.
What’s the purpose of life? What are my strengths?
How am I to come up in life? How to earn money, power, and live peacefully?
What is my goal? Where do I want to go? Life’s is going on peacefully till now. Decent pay, good office, good health. But its human being nature’s to think something apart from daily existence in the name of peace, god etc., & strive to attain that. Sam is no exception to it. Sometimes, the divide between rich and poor is so high that rich becomes poor to earn more!! Like any other being who searches his fortune in some other place, he had also decided to move on to a place which think he is destined to. It’s called “Mumbai”!!

‘Jai ramji ki” – words came from white topiwala when train is crossing towards Andhra border. “Jai ramji ki’! Afternoon sun is too hot to bear in unreserved compartment. Kya karte ho ? haan…..bas kaam ! Realization came very soon that broken hindi can only be of little use. Sam couldn’t bear the hunger when the train reached lonawala. He alighted to have a breakfast. Food wasn’t great but it tasted well. First Mumbai meal is good compared to Chennai idly, sambhar. He had made up his mind not to think about Chennai again. Ha…what a boring place !! cunning people, doubtful eyes, chi chi…it sucks, aadmi tho imandar hona chahiye ..south people are not imandars ! He was feeling great that he thinks in hindi ! After all, he has come to his dream place ‘Mumbai ‘!

Pulling his only bag, sam alighted finally before the massive crowd at churchgate. Thought some political affair might be there behind these crowd. Alas! It’s the daily crowd which shuttle between home & office. Quite unaware of this noble truth, he walked down to road thinking what to do next ? Inquiring about gateway of India, he reached there to see how the Englishmen came to Mumbai first! The giant appearance, standing tall, alone made him think ‘ah “! Having Pani Poori & kulfi made him to see the naked truth. Pani poori & kulfi everywhere remains the same. Its water everywhere!

He doesn’t know anybody unlike most of Mumbai people. Traveling all along the pathway, watching buildings he was moving endlessly. The sun was about sign off for the day. He reached spot where two people were exchanging leather bags. He witnessed the event and they saw him. Kya dekta hai pe ? kuch show dikh raha kya ? chal, sale. Though he couldn’t understand the words, he was convinced that they don’t like him seeing the thing. He said sir; I am a new to this place. Any job? I do good work sir. Chal, koi kaam nahin hai hamare paas. He has decided to beg. Being an Indian & Chennaiite begging for favours comes naturally. He started the stuff. To avoid him now, they asked him to meet him next day at same place.

Next day, Sam was waiting for whole day to impress them in evening. They didn’t turn up. Fate is sometimes bad enough to wait & give the worse. The day after next, they turned up with same leather bag. Sam went near thinking they can recognize him easily. They were busy in their own stuff. When he was standing in front of them, the fat guy asked what he wants. Sir, job sir. That day u asked me to wait so waiting sir. He was surprised to see a guy wait for 2 days on hearing his simple words. They decided to take him with them. He was loaded on back of their Chevrolet tavera. Traveling for 45 min, the car reached an individual house surrounded by bushes. He was told that this is the house which he should take care. The house is used for business purposes. Board sign read as “Asif enterprises “. Though he couldn’t understand whatz the business, he was faithful servant. He kept the house clean & look after the garden. After someday, the boss ordered gave him some candle sticks & big glass works to light inside. He obeyed it. It was for an evening party to some fat fellows along with good dance by some female dancers.

chaaron taraf
noor-un-ala, noor-un-ala, noor-un-ala-noor
yeh barkh-e-tajalli andheron ko cheerti
yahaan bhi tu, vahaan bhi tu
yeh roshni kya roshni
noor-un-ala, noor-un-ala, noor-un-ala-noor.

The candle light, dance movements, hookah, story telling eyes, money notes rolling over top & bottom, girls exposed new world to Sam. He was enjoying it thoroughly. He was helping
